Anthony Barboza, born in 1944 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, left for New York to study photography at age 19. Through his association with Hugo Bell and Adger Cowans, two successful African American photographers, he was introduced into The Kamoinge Workshop, under the direction of Roy DeCarava. His career as a photojournalist is extensive, as is his advertising work for many prominent companies. Further, he has exhibited widely and published several books of his photographs.
