231/2x161/2 inches. F. Ullmann G. M. B. H., Zwickau.
Condition B+: creases and minor discoloration in margins; creases in image. Paper.
Stankowski studied at the Folkwang Schule under Max Buchartz where he learned about functional graphic design and corporate identity. In the 1930s he began to explore constructivism and elements of the Bauhaus tenets, focusing on photography and photomontage. His prominent design career lead him to positions as the creator of the "visual layout" for the City of Berlin, Chairman of the visual design committee of the Munich Olympic Games, 1972, and renown as the exemplary designer for such major companies as IBM. This poster is characteristic of his style, which Eckhard Neumann describes as "pertinent valid brevity [with] no embellishments." He is advertising tools via photographs that describe, demonstrate and show details, within a strict, logical layout and the Akzidenz-Grotesk typography that he often employed. Not in Stankowski.
