ANTONIO CRECCOLINI
(Rome 1671-circa 1725 Rome)
A Pair of Designs for a Processional Coach for the Prince of Lichtenstein.

Both pen and ink and wash and red chalk on cream laid paper, circa 1690. Both approximately 217x165 mm; 81/2x61/2 inches. Ex-collection Wildenstein & Co., New York. Exhibited at the Nelson Gallery, Kansas City, "The Century of Mozart," 1956, catalogue numbers 129 and 130, p. 35, figure 48, and Caracas, "Exposicion de dibujous del renacimiento al soglo XX," 1957, catalogue number 3.

The current drawings are likely studies for the engravings of the Prince of Lichtenstein's processional coach which appeared in printed form in 1691 (see Giulia Fusconi, Disegni decorativi del barocco romano, Rome, 1986, pp. 20-21, figures 25-26).
