Anotonio Martorell was born in 1939 in Santurce, Puerto Rico. He began his college education in diplomatic studies at Georgetown University, Washinton, DC. In 1961 he travelled to Madrid, Spain and received training in the discipline of painting under Julio Martín-Caro Soto.
Martorell's work is in the collections of the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, Museo de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Museo de Arte de Ponce, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, Galería Nacional de San Salvador, Museo de Arte Moderno de México, el Museo del Barrio, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
