ANTONIO SIMEONI (DATES UNKNOWN)

LAGO DI GARDA RIVA. Circa 1926.

39½x27¾ inches, Barabino & Graeve, Genova.
Condition B+: tears, repaired tears, small losses and creases in margins; staining in right margin; unobtrusive tourism ink stamps in bottom margin and upper image; small pin holes in corners. Paper.

On the northern end of Lake Garda lies the tourist resort of Riva, depicted here in an intriguing and stylized manner, through the gap between two trees. In this striking Neo-Impressionist image, the setting sun is casting long, light blue shadows while illuminating the houses and boats in the charming, quiet harbor. "During the thirties [Simeoni] worked for the Barabino & Graeve printing firm on the production of a series of posters and other advertising material for Lake Garda and the surrounding holiday resorts" (Manifesta p. 202).
