first edition of this scarce and desirable design book printed in an edition of 380 for subscribers. In 1720 Lord Burlington purchased Jones's designs from John Talman and had them engraved by Henry Hulsbergh from designs by his master draughtsman Henry Flitcroft. By 1724, Burlington commissioned William Kent to edit The Designs, which, when completed, included additional designs of Burlington and Kent himself. Fowler 162; Harris 385; Berlin 2269.
