Additional Details

Second English Edition of the most important book on perspective of the late baroque period and one of the most attractive. It is a translation by John James of the 1693 Roman edition, Part I, but without the folding plate of the ceiling of St. Ignatius Church, which first appeared in the 1702 Roman edition. The handsome engravings, printed by John Sturt, are among the most detailed of their day. The first edition of the work was considered the most elaborate and expensive book published in Britain at the time. Harris 704; Fowler 252 note.
