ARDUINO COLATO (1880-1954) CIRCUITO DEL LAGO DI GARDA. 1937. 39 1/4x27 1/2 inches, 99 3/4x70 cm. Barabino & Graeve, Genova. Condition A-: minor repaired tears and restoration in margins and image; restoration along horizontal folds. In this Futurist-inspired landscape, a "tour bus emerges from a tunnel like a bullet into a landscape of carefully graded colors and contrasting angles. It is a clever concept, one that holds the promise of both Italian alpine beauty and automotive excitement" (Crouse p. 295). Colato was a painter who is credited with having designed only this one poster. This poster originally appeared in 1930, in a larger format and with different text, advertising excursions around Lake Garda by the Bonomini company. It was reissued in subsequent years, advertising the same service, but by a different company. This is the Italian version. Bolaffi p. 63 (var), Crouse p. 295 (var).
