ARISTOLDE MAILLOL
Two early woodcuts.

Femme étendue sur une draperie, 1894-95. 78x221 mm; 3x8 3/4 inches, wide margins. Signed with the artist's monogram and numbered 23/75 in pencil, lower margin. Published by Henri M. Petiet, Paris, with the ink stamp (see Lugt 2021a, lower right recto). Ex-collection the publisher, with the ink stamp (verso). A very good impression of this extremely scarce, early woodcut. * La Vielle a la Jarre, 1892. 189x156 mm; 7 1/2x6 1/8 inches, wide (full ?) margins. Guérin lists only a few known proofs. Signed with the artist's monogram in pencil, lower left. Published by Henri M. Petiet, Paris, with the ink stamp (see Lught 2012a, verso). A very good impression of this extremely scarce, early woodcut. The artist's first print, which he made as an aspiring artist, under Gauguin's influence. We have found only 7 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years. Guérin 6, 1.

From the estate of Eric Carlson.
