Rassenfosse was a friend and disciple of Felicien Rops. Rops taught Rassenfosse the art of lithography and the two worked and studied together for years. What he learned from Rops Rassenfosse applied in his own manner, becoming a master of the art form in his own right and a key member of the group of Belgian artists based in Liege. His style revolves around his delicate sense of drawing and his ability to marry flat and half-tones together in a fluid image. Over the years his style became more and more minimal, distilled down to just a few colors conveyed in flat tones and held together by his delicate outlining. For this art exhibition in Roubaix, in the North of France, he resorts to one of his favorite and oft-used motifs--an elegant woman perusing an exhibition catalogue. This poster was printed on several different colored papers, including white, cream, light gray-green and orange. Rassenfosse 51.
