ARMAND A. L. RASSENFOSSE (1862-1934) SALON DES CENT / FEBRUARY. 1896.
24x161/4 inches. Aug. Benard, Liege.
Condition B+: restored losses in margins; vertical fold. Japan.
Rassenfosse was a friend and disciple of Felicien Rops. In fact it was Rops who taught Rassenfosse the art of lithography and the two worked and studied together for years. As Rops was an old friend of Deschamps, and had been involved with the Salon des Cent from its inception, it is likely that it was Rops who arranged Rassenfosse's first commission for a poster. Here, for a group exhibition, he exhibits two very elegant ladies perusing both the show's works and catalogue. It is a subtle, quiet and dignified image.
