ARMAND A. L. RASSENFOSSE (1862-1934) SALON DES CENT. 1896.
221/4x333/4 inches. Chaix, Paris.
Condition A-: discoloration in margins. Hand signed and numbered. Paper.
In 1896 Deschamps had planned to hold a large show of the works of Felicien Rops. In the process of organizing the exhibition, the two had a falling out and the show was cancelled. However, in preparation for the show both Rops and Rassenfosse had designed posters to promote the exhibition. Rassenfosse's image was a friendly humorous tribute to his friend and mentor, playing off of Rops's slightly erotic, risqué style, showing a nude examining an even smaller nude through a magnifying glass. The poster was printed without text, perhaps waiting for the final date of the Rops exhibition to be established.
