Monroe wore this dress on a 1955 trip to Bement, Illinois to promote an Abraham Lincoln exhibit. A detail of this image that is cropped at the knees and excludes the man's head (Leonardi, her hairdresser, who was the only other person on the trip) is illustrated in Arnold's book Marilyn Monroe (Abrams, 2005, second edition), p. 59 and pastedowns.
