Elliot Budd Hopkins was a well-known artist, author, and ufologist. He gained national acclaim for his collage techniques in the style of abstract expressionism, and won a Guggenheim Fellowship for painting. Today many major institutions include his work. He also gained considerable fame for his interest in UFOs, publishing books and conducting his own research, particularly in alien abduction phenomena. Hopkins' interest in UFOs and alien visitations was renewed the year this image was taken. He reported seeing a daytime UFO near Cape Cod, but was disappointed in the response, suspecting a government cover-up. Hopkins developed a particular interest in abductions or visitations, and is considered the "father" of that movement.
