Additional Details

Second edition in Latin of the most important early account of the campaigns of Alexander the Great, preceded by a Venice edition circa 1503. The original Greek text first appeared in 1535. Gershom ben Moses was the most famous member of the family of Jewish printers who took their surname from the town of Soncino. He began printing there in 1488 and was active in various locales for over four decades, including Pesaro in the years 1507-20. His output consisted of Hebrew works exclusively up to 1500, and mostly non-Hebrew texts thereafter. Hoffmann I, 379; Sarton I, 284-85.
