Additional Details

a large and comprehensive collection of the great art journal of the mid-20th century belonging to the groundbreaking director at the museum of modern art. Wheeler spearheaded the Museum's new direction in exhibitions and illustrated publications. Before moving to New York, he was a publisher for six years in Europe and befriended the major modern artists of the day, including Chagall, Miró, Picasso, Braque, Derain, Kandinsky, and Renoir among many others represented in the pages of Derrière Le Miroir, and commissioned numerous livres d'artiste from them. While condition varies somewhat, the majority of issues in this group are, for the most part, barely touched or opened from their cartons and as fresh and bright as when published.
