Additional Details

An unusually large portrait of the 21st President. The inscription is probably to John Jameson, an Amherst, MA lawyer, who was appointed postmaster in December 1876.

signed photographs of President Arthur are rare: Only four have been sold at auction since 1970, according to American Book Prices. The present example is far larger than those four, and certainly one of the largest portarits of any 19th-century American President.
