"Israel. Yom ha-Atzma'ut 5 Iyyar." Proposed but unpublished study for a postal stamp celebrating Israel's Independence Day of 14 May 1948. Gouache, ink, pencil, and watercolor on board. 51x79 mm; 2x3 1/8 inches, on 7 1/2x11-inch board. Signed in full and dated New Canaan, 1949; "Stamps of Israel" and "Independence Stamp" penned in lower margin. Matted and framed.

Accompanied by a Typed Letter Signed by the Postmaster General of the State of Israel, Z. Prihar, congratulating and thanking Szyk for his beautiful and well-received design. September, 1950. 1 page, 8vo, on State of Israel letterhead. In his letter he mentions gifting to Szyk two First Day Covers signed by himself and the Minister of Israel which are also included in this lot, matted and framed.
