Rochet-Schneider was one of the first French companies to build automobiles, beginning production in 1896 and continuing through 1932. Rochet was an engineer who partnered with Schneider, the owner of a smelting works in Le Creusot. Although the brand was not stylistically very creative, the cars, built at a factory in Lyon, were known to be powerful, well built and reliable. This early, realistic design is a rare document on early automobiles.
