ARTIST UNKNOWN LIEBIG COMPANY'S EXTRACT OF BEEF.
116x60 inches. Grant & Co. Litho., London.
Condition B+: restoration, repaired tears and creases along vertical and horizontal folds. Three sheets.
Introduced to the market in 1852, this brand of beef extract was popularly advertised all over continental Europe by such masters of the poster as Theophile-Alexandre Steinlen, Francisco Tamagno and Marcello Dudovich. For the British market the image is of an elegant young woman drinking a cup of Liebig's, drawn in a very realistic way, with strong colors in the manner cherished by the British advertising artists of the era. An impressive billboard with bold lettering.
