ASHLEY COLE (1983 - )
Intuition.

Acrylic on cotton canvas, 2019. 762x1016 mm; 30x40 inches. Signed, titled and dated in ink, verso.

Provenance: collection of the artist.

The artist says of the series, "unknowingly I have created a series of abstract works that demands the viewer to take a deeper look inside themselves... Elevate, Intuition, and Patience all done on 30x40 canvas... creating these pieces was a reflection of my own thoughts and energy."

Born in Compton, California, Ashley Cole's early years were spent in the vibrant and culturally rich community of Watts. It was there that she developed her love and appreciation for art, drawing inspiration from the vibrant colors and textures of her surroundings.

Self-taught, Cole's passion and commitment to her craft draws upon a diverse range of influences, from bold and energetic style of abstract expressionism to the intricate and delicate details of traditional indigenous mark-making. Her work is a unique blend of textures, shapes, and colors. Influenced by the works of Mary Lovelace O'Neal, Sam Gilliam, and Al Loving, Cole derives from her subconscious and the need to create meaningful experiences through abstraction.
