The Italian magazine Emporium, which began publication in 1895, was an emissary of the Liberty Movement. It was published by Ricordi, the printer who was itself at the center of the Italian Art Nouveau movement. This small image (similar in size and purpose to the American posters from the same era advertising Harper's and other magazines) was inspired by Roman antiquity. It depicts the bust of a pensive young lady with a laurel wreath both on her head and in her hand, against a mosaic background. Although the letters ASL appear in the mosaic, we have not been able to determine their meaning.
