Floating between sheets of plexi. Founded in 1847, the Nassauischer Kunstverein began as the "Society of Friends of the Visual Arts," and is the oldest arts group in Wiesbaden. The independent group took it upon themselves to hold exhibitions of art that were free from any governmental or political influences. Schwitters had many works exhibited in their galleries during the 1920s. Although this poster is unsigned, it is printed using a form of Schwitters' Architype based on his 1927 phonetic alphabet. The Landesmuseum in Wiesbaden refers to the style of this poster as designed in Schwitters' exclusive "Balkenschrift" (which was also used by Robert Michel), a blocky font without rounding (Typographie und Werbegestaltung p. 166).
