AUBREY BEARDSLEY (1872-1898)
Woman with elaborate headdress.

Unpublished original drawing from the Collection of Oscar Wilde. Pen and ink on paper. 160x130 mm; 6¼x5⅛ inches on 10x7⅞-inch sheet. Unsigned. Enclosed in full red levant solander case, 11¾x9½ inches.

Includes typewritten description that reads "This drawing comes from the collection of Oscar Wilde, who was a friend of the artist, and whose 'Salome' was illustrated by Beardsley.

This drawing, which is very characteristic, shows a woman with an elaborate head-dress, with large white feathrers rising from her hair. Her nude body issues from a voluminous black robe, and the figure is framed by curtains on upper left and right.

Additional interest attaches to the drawing by reason of its never having been published."
