Additional Details

A charming image by Beardsley that was titled by Frederick H. Evans. It appeared first in the Smith and Sheridan Bon Mots and was reproduced in two subsequent Bon Mots volumes also published by Dent. Wilson, as quoted in Zatlin believes this drawing parodies the more extreme Realist wing of the Impressionist plein air painting, as practiced by the Newlyn School, for example Stanhope Forbes who describes working on the beach were he "got blown about and rained upon"--Zatlin 717.
