Bronze with dark brown patina, after 1880-85. 225x380x265 mm; 9x15x10½ inches. With "A. Rodin" and the name of the foundry "Meroni et Radice/Cire Perdue/Paris" in the base.

The marble version of the same subject by Rodin, executed circa 1880-85, is in the St. Louis Museum of Art (see Tancock, The Sculpture of Auguste Rodin<>, Philadelphia, 1971, no. 30). According to the Musee Rodin, Paris, the current work was made by the sculpture A. Fidi after Rodin's marble sculpture.
