AUGUSTE RODIN
Les Amours conduisant le monde.

Drypoint on cream laid Japan paper, 1881. 203x250 mm; 8x9 7/8 inches, wide margins. Second state (of 2), with the plate maker's mark erased upper right. Signed in pencil, lower right. A brilliant impression with richly-inked, velvety burr.

Rodin's first drypoint, purportedly created with an ordinary sewing needle (instead of a proper drypoint needle) on the back of a copper plate belonging to Alphonse Legros while he was visiting Legros in England.

Thorson lists 13 impressions in public collections. We have found only another 8 impressions at auction in the past 25 years. Delteil 1; Thorson 1.
