AUSTIN COOPER (1890-1964) INNSBRUCK VIA HARWICH. Circa 1935.
40x50 inches, 100 1/8x120 3/4 cm. Hermann Sonntag & Co., Munich.

Canadian-born Austin Cooper was both a prolific artist (working extensively for the London Underground and Britain's different railway companies) and a stylistic virtuoso. His posters reflect many different design concepts, from the cartoonish to the literal. "Some of the finest advertising was produced by the LNER . . . in promoting their routes to the Continent." (Railway p. 23). It is interesting to note that although published by the LNER, this poster was printed in Germany.
