First and only edition, octavo, one of 5,000 copies printed; bound in black publisher's cloth, spine lettered in yellow; with original unclipped pictorial dust jacket (a few tiny spots to front pastedown, corners rubbed; minor edge wear to jacket with a few small closed tears); 8 x 5 1/4 in.

Abbey denounced his debut novel almost immediately upon its release in 1954 for its lack of maturity and insubstantial prose, stating the book was "even worse than I had thought." He asked that the work never be published again, making this first and only edition highly desirable for Abbey collectors, especially in fine condition with the jacket.
