Albee's Self Portrait depicts her hands in the process of working on a wood engraving. In the final version, the cutting hand is on the left side of the sheet, with the steadying hand holding the block on the right. In the present print, those positions are opposite. The block itself is also positioned slightly further from the bottom margin. The image of a steeple is visible in the final version of the engraving, in this version, the block has only been carved with some parallel lines and small dots.
