Ango, Pierre (1640-1694)
L'Optique Divisée en Trois Livres.

Paris: Chez Michallet, 1682.

First edition, 12mo, illustrated with numerous text diagrams and one full-page plate; bound in full contemporary sheep, front board becoming detached, 6 x 3 1/2 in.

"Ignace Gaston Pardies' speculations on light were contained in an unfinished treatise on refraction which Huygens saw in manuscript before 1673. This treatise has been lost, but the Jesuit father Pierre Ango had seen Pardies' manuscript and adopted some of his ideas in a book on optics published in 1682." (c.f. A.I. Sabra's, Theories of Light: from Descartes to Newton Cambridge University Press, 1988; pages195ff.)
