Wendt wore this emblem on his launch pad garment during test preparations for and the actual launch of Apollo 17. Wendt was stationed in the "white room" at the end of swing arm number 9 at the 320 foot level of the launch tower. He and his crew were primarily responsible for astronaut entry, check-out, and hatch closing of the spacecraft. He was the pad close-out leader for all actual manned launches during Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Skylab.
