Apollo Training Camera. Model 500C Hasselblad camera used by Eugene Cernan during training for both Apollo X and XVII with a black leather carrying case and instruction booklet.

Additional Details

A 500C modified to NASA standards was used on the last two manned Mercury missions and manned Gemini missions. Later Gemini and Apollo missions also carried models 500EL and/or SWC Hasselblad cameras. This standard 500C camera was given to Cernan by Victor Hasselblad so he could become familiar with the camera's operations and practice making photographs prior to his 1969 Apollo X flight. He continued to use it during training for the last manned lunar landing in December 1972, Apollo XVII. Hasselbalds recorded virtually all of the well know views from earth orbit, lunar orbit, or the lunar surface. Inscribed and signed by Cernan on the first interior page of the 500C instruction booklet with: "Used in training for Apollo missions. Presented by Mr. Hasselblad. Eugene Cernan". With Typed Letter Signed by Cernan describing his camera and training use. The camera appears to be in good operating condition.
