"Stella Adler, pictured here in the middle, was about as famous as any actress the Group Theater ever had. Largely because they never bothered to develop actresses. They concentrated on the men. Perhaps this is why Stella never really made it as an actress and had to go into teaching. Of course, the Group Theater didn't have the reputation in the Thirties that it has had subsequently. This drawing is, however, representative of the Group Theater productions in general, in another classic Odets play. The actors flanking Stella are Morris Carnovsky and John Garfield." HOL/71.
