Additional Details

A detailed study of Popple's 20-sheet map and Key (Index) map and also the French, Dutch and German copies and derivatives. As a result of this study the number of different states of the British 20-sheet map, compared with the results of William P. Cumming and Helen Wallis' research on the map published in 1972, was increased from 3 to 8 and of the Key Map from 3 to 9. This is copy 19 of the book and the Addendum. 10 sets were distributed in 1999 to institutions by the author, 6 sold at auction, 1 was privately distributed, 1 is being kept by the author (copy No. 12). This particular copy of the book has an original inset map - of Kingston Harbour in Jamaica from Sheet No. 16, as well as the introductory text and an original 1740 inset map of Popple's Harbour of Placentia by Philippe Buache. The Addendum in turn has the original Covens & Mortier Dutch copies of the Havana and St. Iago inset maps.
