Additional Details

The present map is a rarely seen representation of the Spice Islands and is notable for being one of the earliest engraved maps to be published in the Philippines. This was one of 9 folding maps to appear in Juan de la Concepcion's Historia General de Philipinas (1788-1792) which is generally recognized as being the most important and extensive work relating to the Philippines from the period. Concepcion's book is scarce, only appearing twice at auction in the last 100 years. This map is found in the seventh chapter of Volume One as compared to the copy at the John Carter Brown Library.
