BALDWIN COUNTY GEORGIA. Inquisition on the murder of Sam Finney, a man of color. Four page folio legal brief, written on three rectos only, docketed on the fourth; paper lightly and evenly toned. Baldwin, Georgia, 1874

Additional Details

a reconstruction period murder case, involving a man of color named Sam Finney, shot on the day after Christmas. Includes testimony of a couple of people who describe in grisly detail coming upon the body of Finney, who was shot in the back of the head near the Gin House (cotton gin) of Patience Gibson. Includes the signed testimony of Dr. J. L. Hain and coroner W. J. Scott, who states that Mr. Finney was shot from behind with buck-shot. Oddly enough, this case seems to be unrecorded. Definitely a "cold case."
