Additional Details

Banks (1816-1894) was a Massachusetts "Know-Nothing" elected as speaker of the House in 1856, and in 1858, he served as governor of Massachusetts. After being commissioned in 1861 and serving as a Union soldier, Banks returned to Congress in 1865.
