BARBARA HEPWORTH
Forms in Space.

Pencil on cream wove paper, 1951. 229x153 mm; 9x6 inches. Signed, titled and dated in pencil, lower margin. Inscribed "Drawings from found objects St. Ives beach," in ink, verso. With a period photograph of Hepworth in her sitting room, found framed underneath the drawing.

Hepworth worked extensively in St. Ives, Cornwall, after the death of her son and her divorce from painter Ben Nicholson. She died there tragically in 1975 at the age of 72, as the result of a studio fire. The remains of the studio and her home now form the Barbara Hepworth Museum.
