BARKLEY L. HENDRICKS (1945 - 2017)
Untitled (Virgin Pin).

Mixed media and assemblage, including glitter, ribbon, gold ring pin, "Vickie" name plate bracelet, and faux fur trim, on cotton canvas, 1998. Approximately 254x254 mm; 10x10 inches. Signed, dated and dedicated "To Vickie with love on our birthday, 16 April, 98" in ink, verso.

Provenance: gift from the artist, Vickie Seitchik Goldstein, Philadelphia; thence by descent, private collection.

Vickie Goldstein's partner was Harry Kulkowitz, the founder and director of Kenmore Galleries in Philadelphia who gave Barkley Hendricks his first solo exhibition in 1970. Hendricks exhibited with Kenmore Galleries through the 1973, but Harry and Vickie remained lifelong friends of the artist.

This unique work is from a small series of assemblage pieces featuring "Virgin Pins" or "Circle Pins". Barkley made this one with Vickie's own pin from her childhood and gifted it to her on their shared birthday, April 16th.
