Barrie," to Hilda Trevelyan ("Dear Hilda"), with a small ink drawing, praising her performance, warning her not to modify it, hoping to write a better role for her one day, looking forward to meeting after his long holiday, remarking that her letter might have been illustrated, and demonstrating this by drawing concentric circles suggesting a target. 2 pages, 8vo, "Adelphi Terrace House" stationery, written on the recto and verso of single sheet; horizontal fold. "It was a beautiful performance you gave, and I won't have you meddle with it. The part is rather shadowy, nothing at all like the part I should like to give you some day, and my heart was in the father & daughter scene mainly, with the result that in the writing, the other scenes suffered. I can think of no one who would play . . . as well, and I know that is also Gerald's [du Maurier?] opinion. . . . Your letter is characteristic and might be illustrated thus [drawing of target showing scattered hits]."
Hilda Trevelyan performed as "Miss Thing" (Cinderella) opposite Gerald Du Maurier's policeman in Barrie's 1916 play, A Kiss for Cinderella. The role of Cinderella demonstrated a motherly aspect recalling Trevelyan's performance of Wendy in Barrie's play, Peter Pan.
