It was issued for the Weimar Bauhaus exhibition of 1923 which was organized at the behest of the Thuringian Legislative Assembly. Gropius's theme for the show was "Art and Technics; A New Unity" which became the school's slogan, and it showcased the accomplishments of the Assembly's first four years.
