Fragment of an Autograph Letter Signed, "Ri:Baxter," to an unknown recipient, including only the last 18 lines, asking about the extent of his illness and about the nature of need among ministers near him, explaining that he had given all his money to a school at Eaton, and advising him to urge others to preach where they are unwelcome. 5 1/2x7 1/2 inches; short closed tear in lower edge repaired with paper verso, folds. Richard Baxter (1615-1691) was an English Presbyterian divine who was imprisoned in 1685 for having published in that year his Paraphrase of New Testament.
