An album containing 17 artfully hand-colored photographs of Japan, all occupational views, and all featuring young women (only one image depicts male figures), including geishas, young women with children, and ceremonial tableaus. Hand-colored albumen prints, sizes ranging from approximately 8 1/4x6 1/4 to 7 1/2x11 inches (21x15.9 to 19.1x27.9 cm.), mounted, all but 3 are vignetted, each with the original caption label mounted opposite. Folio, 1/2 gilt-leather, worn and front cover detached; all edges gilt. Circa 1868
