Select group of 21 artful photographs of Japan, 18 of which are hand-colored, depicting primarily scenes describing the clothing, customs, scenery, and occupations of the subjects, but also includes one mount with three execution-related images. Albumen prints (21), 18 hand-colored and includes one photographic image of a drawing (also hand-colored) and two landscapes which are not hand-colored, sizes ranging from approximately 2 1/8x3 to 9x11 3/8 inches (5.4x7.6 to 22.9x28.9 cm.), and the reverse, 3 with a small caption label on mount recto, and all but one with an original caption label mounted verso. Circa 1868
