Beauford Delaney visited Spain in August of 1956 - his friend Larry Calcagno took him to Ibiza, where they were joined by friends James Baldwin and Leslie Schenk, and to Majorca. This painting is visible in the corner of Beauford Delaney's studio in a 1967 photograph showing a visit by the cigar-smoking writer James Jones, that was published in LIFE magazine.
