Exhibited: An Artistic Friendship: Beauford Delaney and Lawrence Calcagno, a traveling exhibition, including the Hampton University Art Museum and the Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery, February 27, 2001 - November 17, 2002, with the label on the frame back.

Painters Larry Calcagno and Beauford Delaney met in 1953 in Paris, and they quickly became close friends. They kept a correspondence after Calcagno returned to the U.S. in early 1954. Calcagno returned to Europe in 1955, and invited Delaney to accompany him on the first of several trips to Spain and Italy. Leeming pp. 116-17; 167-68.
