Additional Details

Bee (1739-1812) was nominated in 1801 by Adams to the Supreme Court and confirmed, but declined to serve. Bee's appointment was one of several made by President Adams in order to fill the new judicial positions made available by the Midnight Judges Act, so called because Adams was allegedly signing appointments for such "Midnight Judges" late into the night in order to complete them before the end of his term.
