BEECHEY, FREDERICK WILLIAM. Narrative of a Voyage to the Pacific and Beering's Strait, to Co-operate with the Polar Expeditions . . . A New Edition. 3 maps (2 folding), 23 plates. 2 volumes. 8vo, modern 1/4 morocco; some foxing to the plates, title, introduction and table of contents remargined along the gutter, minor separations at folds to the maps neatly closed. London: Henry Colburn and Richard Bentley, 1831

Additional Details

Beechey was sent to the region in 1825 to provide relief to Parry's third voyage and Franklin's second inland expedition, although he never managed to rendezvous with either. It is a noteworthy account, however, for its descriptions of the northwest coast of Alaska, as well as content relating to Pitcairn Island, Hawaii and California. The "New Edition" was preceded by the First Edition (aka Admiralty Edition) published the same year in quarto format and the first octavo edition, which is virtually identical to this one. Arctic Bibliography 1228; Howes B309; Forbes 774.

From the library of Dr. John M. Levinson, with his bookplate.
