Provenance: acquired directly from the artist, the estate of Stephen Poleskie, Ithaca, New York.

Stephen Francis Poleskie, Jr. was a disintguished painter, printmaker and professor of art. He founded the Chiron Press in New York in 1961, the city's first which specialized in screenprinting and whose clients included Roy Licthenstein and Andy Warhol. Poleskie sold it in 1968, and became a professor of visual art at Cornell University where he taught stuidio art and printmaking until his retirement in 2000. He was close with many other fellow figurative artists working in New York in the 1960s including Benny Andrews.
